This collection of portraits of interracial couples shows what love looks like. It’s not contrast but connection that’s been captured, and I have worked to meet the shared gaze of each couple with curiosity, with respect and with warmth. Whether they hold onto each other or not, these couples look like they belong together. The portraits were made to convey an essential record of what loving human connection looks like. That essence is characterized in a poem by Brian Andreas:

There was a boy with skin as dark as the earth & a girl with eyes as blue as the deep & they loved each other so well that people could not tell them apart, for in their hearts, there was no difference between them
