International Krappy Kamera® Competition
What is Krappy Kamera?
In the hands of an artist, great photographs can be made with basic equipment. To explore this talent, we are searching for extraordinary photographs made with lousy lenses. Examples of some Krappy Kameras are the Holga, Diana, Ansco and pinhole cameras. You can also create your own Krappy Kamera by using your “non-Krappy Kamera” (e.g. 4x5, film SLR, DSLR) and exchanging the lens with a “Krappy Lens” (e.g. pinhole body cap or Holga-type lens). Cell phones, disposables, and point and shoot cameras are ineligible. Just because a camera is old and moldy doesn’t make it Krappy.
Russell Joslin is the sole editor and publisher of SHOTS Magazine, an independent, reader-supported quarterly journal of fine art photography that reaches an international audience. Since taking over the publication 16 years ago, he has published 65 issues and interviewed 150 photographers for the pages of SHOTS. Joslin began working as a photographer in the early 90’s. His work has been published and exhibited in numerous solo and group shows. His first book Black Forest was published in 2014. “I see my photographs as visual manifestations of my subconscious mind—images that by pass intellectualization to reveal authentic feeling.” Joslin lives and works in Minneapolis.
