Each year, the Gallery receives hundreds of entries from photographers all over the United States. The Soho Photo National Photography Competition has no limits as to subject matter or technique. Besides awarding prizes, the juror also selects approximately 35 photographers to take part in a month-long exhibition at the gallery. The juror for 2013 is Laura Paterson, Vice-President and Specialist in the Photography Department at Christie’s, New York, where she has served on the professional staff since 1994. Her responsibilities include making appraisals and estimating the value of photographic works for auctions, creating and editing sales catalogues, and coordinating the department’s various sales. As the world’s leading fine art auctioneer, Christie’s has sold fine art, furniture, jewelry and wine since James Christie conducted the first sale in London on 5 December 1766. Ms. Paterson is a native of the United Kingdom. Prior to joining Christie’s, she worked at the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, and the University of Edinburgh. Ms. Paterson earned a Master of Arts degree in Art History in 1982 from the University of Edinburgh and completed postgraduate work there in 1990 as well. Any questions?
