The B&H Portfolio Development Exhibition
July 6 – 28, 2018
In the front gallery, on exhibit, is the 6th annual B&H Event Space Portfolio Development Exhibition. The five month workshop series takes place at B &H’s Event Space and is run and organized by Deborah Gilbert. The series is taught by a variety of speakers including Soho Photo artists Lois Youmans and Sandra Carrion. The free workshops cover a variety of subjects, with an emphasis on preparing a portfolio for gallerysubmission. This year’s series gave participants the added challenge of creating, not just images along a theme, but also each participant had to self-publish a photo book using Blurb. Many participants flourished, taking on serious subjects and telling important stories. Previous Portfolio Development participants have gone on to win competitions, publish books and have solo shows.
One participant said of her experience: “I’ve participated in the B&H Portfolio Development program over the past two years. Some of the things I’ve learned include the amount of discipline good photography takes, and how great it is to be a part of a community of photographers that inspire you and urge you on.” — Mary Catherine Messner

Bob Leonard – Experts in Leather
Aug. 2 – 30, 2018. Opening: Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2018, 5-7:30 pm.
We’re in the age of photography where your best camera is the one in your pocket.
I’ve been shooting with my iPhone for a number of years, documenting oddball signs, graffiti and other objects that catch my eye on the streets of New York and elsewhere. “Experts in Leather” attempts to present these disparate and often whimsical images as a narrative and reflection on our consumerist, sometimes rude, possibly offensive, but never boring society.
Note: The gallery is generally closed in August. This exhibit is presented on a video monitor 24/7, viewable from the front window of the gallery.
