Mixed media is a project in which photographs of my teenage sister Nomi and her art combine into one shared world. The project is my interpretation of how Nomi views her world as a young artist. I sometimes find it hard to relate to my sister; I hoped that creating a project that focuses on her artistic interpretation of the world would provide a way to connect with her.
To create these images, I used still photographs combined with illustrations and pages from Nomi’s sketchbook. Photoshop gave me the freedom to collage many elements together to create an abstract universe that mimics the heart of Nomi’s sketchbook. Although I put the pieces together to create the final work, it is the use of Nomi’s artwork that gives this project its meaning.
