Anne Lawver, Sea Life Emotions

Exhibition Dates: February 2, 2022 – February 27, 2022

These are fish portraits that are visible emotional expressions in the face of death. They display confusion, defiance, fear, agony, despair. The frozen emotions communicate that these aren’t just a bunch of anonymous sea creatures but individuals that are experiencing last moments in their lives.

These fish are fresh fish seen in a unique seafood market displayed on a spectacular, long wall with neatly arranged stacked fish.  Each fish type stacked face-out with layers of ice separating fish upon fish;  shad, mullet, perch, catfish in separate stacks.

With these portraits, these are no longer simply fresh fish for sale.  These are individuals whose expressions seem nearly human in their last moments of death.
