Steven Gilbert, Corporate Distortions

Where corporate high-rises cluster, you can see reflections of one in the glass façades of others. These likenesses are distorted; once depending on your point of view and once because each large pane of glass bulges differently. The images you see here started with photographs of such fun-house-mirror-like phantoms in the crystal-like lattices of the window frames. The photographs were electronically made black-and-white, then converted into line images, their lines then tinted with colors arbitrary to the starting photographs. The point: to make from a common sight images that are anti-common; so puzzling, amusing, suggestive, or provocative that viewers’ minds can play with them and might well want to.
