2021 National Competition First Place Winner

ABOUT THE COMPETITION
The juror, Mercedes Jelinek will choose approximately 40 photographs for the exhibition. Cash prizes for first, second and third place winners will be awarded and up to four honorable mentions will be given as well. The photographers chosen, as well as the award winners, will be notified by email on or about May 15, 2022. The juror’s selections will also be posted on the Soho Photo website.
Mercedes Jelinek is an American artist working in Italy and NYC. Her curiosity about the variety of humanity drives the visual narratives in her work. The resulting projects reflect the personal connection and collaboration she has made with her subjects. Mercedes most recent work revolves around ideas of community, identity, and redefined purpose.
Her work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally and her publications have been acquired by the Museum of Modern Art, Guggenheim Museum, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Whitney Museum, Library of Congress, Aperture Foundation, and the Getty Institute collections. She is also on the board of Blue Sky Gallery in Portland.
Upload jpeg digital images at spg.slideroom.com. Files must be no larger than 1220 pixels (longest dimension) at 72 dpi. The competition is open to all photographers age 18 years old or older, who are residents of the United States, excluding members of Soho Photo Gallery.
1-7 images $50, 8-15 images $75
The awards include cash prizes from Soho Photo Gallery for 1st ($300), 2nd ($200), and 3rd place ($100). There will also be a maximum of four Honorable Mentions, and special gifts from our sponsors. The sponsor for this year’s Competition is Archival Methods, Inc.
Photographs must be suitably prepared for gallery presentation or will not be accepted. Maximum height or width (including frame) of exhibited work cannot exceed 48 inches. Packing and delivery instructions will be emailed to participants. Printing, mounting and framing of each piece must be gallery quality. Work must be wired for hanging. Soho Photo Gallery reserves the right to publish the winning photographs on our website and social media. Copyright retained by the photographer.
COMMISSION AND INSURANCE
The Gallery’s commission for the sale of prints is 30%.
Although we will make reasonable efforts to protect your work while it is in our possession, we are not legally responsible for it. Consider insuring your work for the time it is in the gallery.
