This is an exploration of spaces between buildings. The approach to documentation is inspired by other photographers known for their urban landscapes. Immediate influences are the New York works of Berenice Abbott in the 1930’s, and Thomas Struth in the 1970’s. Before them come Eugene Atget (1857-1927), and Charles Marville (1813-1879). Their photographs document Paris streets prior to the monumental transformations resulting from urban design and development. My initial purpose was to rephotograph sites visited by Abbott and Struth in New York, however, neighboring locations became apparent which I document for present and future reference.
