2023 National Competition

I was delighted to review the wonderful submissions for this year’s Soho Photo National Competition. This application pool exhibited the versatility of the medium, and the creativity of each photographer. While looking at the various works, my mind continually returned to the photographic essence of light and dimension. The selected images celebrate these qualities and touch on the subjects and narratives of today’s world.

Gestures, moments, details, landscapes, these photographs speak to our interactions with one another and the natural world. Formally, they depict connections and disconnections. Through punctuated color, concealed facial expressions, eye contact, and gradients of gray, the exhibition offers viewers opportunities to wonder, discover, and be present through photography.
