Arthur Griffin (1903-2001) was a staff photographer for Time-Life and The Boston Globe, as well as founder of The Griffin Museum of Photography in Winchester, MA.
A prolific chronicler of New England, Arthur amassed thousands of photos. I was invited by Museum Director Crista Dix to choose several images from the archive to pair with an equal number of mine for a show that kicked off a retrospective of Arthur’s work.
I saw two possible approaches to aligning the photos: as identical subjects or as similar subjects with a humorous twist. I chose the latter to create “Point/Counterpoint: Arthur Griffin and Me.”
