Intimacy
Annual Members Exhibition

Juror's Statement about the Exhibition Theme: Intimacy
Juror: Elinor Carucci

This exhibition invites artists to explore the many ways intimacy exists in our lives and in the world around us. Intimacy can be found in close relationships, family, friendship, and the body - but it can also emerge in quieter, less obvious places: in a familiar landscape, a lived-in interior, a still life arrangement, or an everyday moment that holds personal meaning, in the street, the subway, or other public spaces. I encourage artists to think of intimacy not only as physical closeness between people, but as emotional, psychological, or sensory connection - to a place, an object, a memory, or a state of mind. Intimacy from our lives and situation, or people close to us, or seen in other spaces, spheres, or strangers.

Submissions may approach intimacy through portraiture, documentary, street photography, still life, landscape, conceptual, or experimental work. Intimacy might be expressed through how you see your own surroundings, how you observe strangers, how you relate to domestic or public spaces, or how light, color, and form convey a deeply felt inner experience. We welcome work that reflects personal experience as well as work that reveals a careful, attentive engagement with the external world, images that suggest closeness, vulnerability, familiarity, or quiet connection in any form.
