Think of a curious reviewer asking: “Why are these photographs together?” and “What are you getting at?” Use clear and simple language.

Suggested prompts to get you started:

• What’s the beating heart of this project (subject, question, or experiment)?
• What unites the images (style, process, time, place, constraints)?
• What choices make this presentation yours (scale, pairing, material, printing method)?

Sample projects statements:

• A Marsh for All Seasons: “To do photographic justice to the many moods of a Maine marsh over a long year, only contact platinum prints on handmade paper could do.”
• Facing Truths: “After finding teenage portraits of my friends, I re-photographed them decades later to test the idea that ‘at sixty, you have the face you deserve.’ Most were amused.”
• Cave Dwellers: “Skateboarders looked and felt static until I photographed only their shadows; then they became figures draped and stretched over curved concrete, forming a mysterious society.”

Yes. However, the images need to be photo/lens-based.
