How We Operate
The Collective Engine
We are a working collective. For over 50 years we have been putting the artist’s personal voice on the gallery wall. As a collective, every aspect of the gallery is run by our artists.
The Portfolio Review Committee
Our curatorial process is an open dialogue. Open to every member of the collective, those who attend vote on the work that earns a place on our walls. Our monthly Salon gives our artists the feedback and insights to strengthen their work and creative practice.
Artist-Staffed Stewardship
When you visit, you meet the makers. From Wednesday through Sunday, the gallery is staffed by our artists — offering a rare, direct connection between the practitioner and the public.
Exhibition Structure
Our seven dedicated bays let us host seven simultaneous perspectives — a vast spectrum of the medium, from 19th-century alternative processes to cutting-edge contemporary and conceptual work.
Our high-velocity schedule that balances the vision of our collective with a rigorous connection to the broader photographic community: eight months of internal curation and four months of guest jurors — including our Annual Member Show, our Portfolio Competition (awarding a New York solo exhibition), and our nationally renowned Alternative Processes and Krappy Kamera® competitions.
