Portfolio Submission

Membership Portfolio
Application for membership requires submission of a portfolio of work. A portfolio is a cohesive body of12-15 individual prints representing a distinct theme or an on-going project illustrating:

  • Your skill as a photographer
  • Your ability to edit your prints into a cohesive body of work
  • Your ability to present exhibition-quality prints and appropriate matting

Your portfolio must be submitted both as individual prints and digitally updated to SmugMug (see directions below)

Artist’s Statement
Include a brief statement of 70-80 words about this portfolio only describing:

  • Your vision
  • What makes your work and/or its presentation unique
  • Wour techniques, and anything else you think is relevant to generating viewer interest in your work

Print Portfolio
The gallery is staffed Wednesday – Sunday, 1:00 – 6:00 pm. Bring your portfolio box of individual prints (no books or digital files) to the gallery anytime before 10:00 am on the day of the review or arrange to have it shipped. On the outside of your portfolio, please indicate: “Attn: Linda Hacker, PRC.”

Your prints should be sized according to your vision. If your exhibition prints are oversized, we need to see at least one print that size but the rest can be smaller (no work prints please). Work should not be framed but should be presented according to your vision, as though you were preparing for an exhibition. Matting of your prints is optional.   Print quality is an important part of this assessment. 

In your print portfolio box, please include:

  • Your 10 -15 prints, numbered on the back indicating your intended sequence
  • Artist statement (include your cell phone number)

At 12:30 pm, please return to the gallery for feedback on your portfolio and the determination of the review.

Digital Portfolio
Please supplement your print portfolio with a digital upload so that Soho Photo members attending the meeting via Zoom can also review your images. Photo specs are as follow:

  • jpeg
  • sRGB color space
  • 1200 px on the longer side
  • Naming convention: YourName_ImageTitle.jpg


Step 1
Log into the Soho Photo account on SmugMug.

Email: prc@sohophoto.com
Password: Submissions534 (case sensitive)

Click Log In

Step 2
In the top navigation click on Photo Site (now highlighted in green)

Click Upload (green button on the left)

Step 3
In the Upload Photo panel: Click on Into New Gallery

Create Gallery panel opens.

In the Title field, enter your name, Membership Application (e.g. Linda Hacker, Membership Application)

 In the Description field, enter your artist statement

Click Create (green button)

Step 4
Upload Photos page opens.

In the Drag Photos & Videos Here or Browse Computer area, select your images to be uploaded.

When your photos have uploaded, the panel will display a green checkmark.

Click on the “X” to see your new gallery (upper right).

Click on the person icon in the upper right corner to log out out of SmugMug.
